Description
707-002 Duratec Grey Surface Primer – Quart & 1 Gallon
Duratec® 707-002 Grey Surface Primer is a high-build, easy-sanding air-cure polyester primer designed for wood, MDF, tooling board, and composite plugs, patterns, and models. Formulated as the ultimate high-gloss surface primer, it produces a smooth, pore-free surface that can be polished directly to a gloss or used as the ideal base for high-performance topcoats and mold surfaces.
Using advanced air-cure technology, Duratec Grey Surface Primer cures quickly even in relatively thin coats, allowing you to sand, finish, and pull tools faster. Its highly cross-linked film delivers excellent chemical resistance and long-term durability on demanding composite and tooling projects.
Key Features & Benefits
- High-build, fast-sanding primer: fills surface imperfections and sands easily to a perfectly smooth profile.
- High-gloss potential: can be buffed and polished directly for a glossy surface or used under Duratec topcoats.
- Low porosity: provides a fine, even filling and leveling system that minimizes pinholes and surface defects.
- Excellent adhesion: bonds to most epoxies with heat distortion levels around 200°F / 93°C and also adheres to fiberglass, wood, MDF, brick, concrete, and polyurethane foam.
- Rapid build-up: builds quickly to 40 mils in fewer coats on composite plugs, tooling board, and master model surfaces.
- Chemical resistance: highly cross-linked coating offers outstanding resistance to solvents and chemicals.
- Versatile application: can be sprayed with HVLP equipment, pressure pot, or brush/roller when required.
- Gelcoat substitute: effective alternative to sanding gelcoat on epoxy laminates or pinhole-free surfaces.
Recommended Uses
- Surface coat for composite plugs and patterns used to build production molds.
- High-build primer over MDF and tooling board prior to topcoating or molding operations.
- Smooth, sandable base for automotive, marine, and industrial composite prototypes.
- Primer for wood, MDF, brick, concrete, and polyurethane foam in model and pattern shops.
Duratec 707-002 Grey Surface Primer must be catalyzed with MEKP 925 (not included; sold separately), typically at 1.75–2.25% by volume.
