Carbon Fiber Triaxial Spread Tow 12k 3.54oz/120gsm T700
Description
Description
Carbon Fiber Triaxial Spread Tow – 12k · 3.54 oz/120 gsm · 39"/99 cm · Toray T700
This premium triaxial spread-tow carbon combines three, perfectly straight fiber layers at 0°/±60° to create a quasi-isotropic laminate in a single ply. By spreading each 12k tow into an ultra-flat tape and stitching the layers together (no weave crimp), the fabric delivers a higher fiber-to-resin ratio, lower resin demand, and exceptionally smooth surfaces compared with traditional woven cloth.
Why spread-tow triaxial?
- Straighter fibers, less crimp — improves tensile and compressive properties.
- Quasi-isotropic response — 0°/±60° orientation provides balanced stiffness in-plane.
- Very flat hand — superior cosmetics and lower print-through under skins and paint.
- Lower resin consumption than conventional woven fabrics of comparable mass.
- Excellent with wet layup, vacuum bagging, and resin infusion.
Typical applications
High-performance skins and shells, drones/UAVs, robotics, sporting goods, automotive and motorsport bodywork, marine panels, bicycles, boards, and any lightweight structure requiring a thin, quasi-isotropic carbon ply with excellent finish quality.
Processing notes
- Light spray adhesive may be used to position the fabric before bagging or infusion.
- For infusion, ensure resin flow media runs perpendicular to the spread tapes for reliable wet-out.
- For hand layup, a tacky gel-coat or tooling coat can help keep the fabric flat against the mold surface.
