Chemlease® MPP-2180 Mold Prep and Primer
Description
Description
Chemlease® MPP 2180 – Mold Primer (Heavy-Duty Surface Sealer Basecoat)
Chemlease® MPP 2180 is a heavy-duty mold primer designed to prepare and seal mold surfaces before the application of semi-permanent mold sealers and release agents. It improves process efficiency and finished part quality by creating a smooth, non-porous, uniform substrate that helps subsequent release coatings perform consistently across production cycles.
What It’s For
- Sealing and priming composite and metal molds prior to semi-permanent sealer/release application.
- Excellent on polyester, epoxy, phenolic, and metal molds, plus RenShape®/urethane tooling boards.
- Ideal for new tools, refurbished tools, or molds that exhibit porosity, inconsistent release, or surface micro-defects.
Important: MPP 2180 is a primer only and does not have release properties. Follow with a compatible Chemlease® mold sealer and release agent to complete the system.
Key Benefits
- Creates a smooth, non-porous surface that enhances sealer/release performance.
- Promotes consistent demolds and helps reduce sticking and print defects.
- Supports extended tool life and improved cosmetic finish quality.
- Streamlines new-tool startup and mold refurbishment.
Typical Application (Summary)
- Clean & de-wax the mold thoroughly; remove contaminants, residue, and oxidation. Allow to dry.
- Apply MPP 2180 per the manufacturer’s instructions (wipe-on with lint-free applicator or HVLP spray, thin even coats).
- Allow appropriate flash/cure time between coats. (Number of coats depends on substrate porosity and TDS guidance.)
- Top-coat with the recommended Chemlease® mold sealer, then finish with a compatible release agent.
- Verify with a small test area before full-scale production to confirm process settings and finish.
Compatibility
Suitable for polyester, epoxy, phenolic, and metal tools as well as RenShape® epoxy and urethane tooling boards. Always consult the product TDS/SDS for exact parameters, cure times, and compatibility with your chosen sealer/release system.
Handling & Safety
- Use in a well-ventilated area with appropriate PPE (gloves, eye/skin protection).
- Avoid open flames and ignition sources. Follow local regulations for storage and disposal.
- Refer to the most current TDS/SDS for detailed instructions and safety information.
