Chopped E-Glass Fiberglass
Description
Description
Chopped E-Glass Fiberglass — 1″, 1/2″, or 1/4″ Cut Lengths (Natural)
Our Chopped E-Glass Fiberglass is a clean, production-quality fiberglass reinforcement cut to consistent lengths for easy dispersion in resin systems. Use it to build isotropic strength and impact resistance in castings, putties, and molded compounds, or to create a striking “forged fiberglass” surface when placed against the mold face. Supplied in natural (undyed) E-glass with thermoset-friendly sizing for rapid wet-out in epoxy, vinyl ester, and polyester resins.
Key Features
- Consistent cut lengths: Choose 1″, 1/2″, or 1/4″ fibers for predictable mixing and part performance.
- Isotropic reinforcement: Fibers distribute in all directions to toughen parts and reduce brittleness.
- High-quality E-glass: Low fuzz, clean chop for dependable processing and surface finish.
- Thermoset compatible: Standard silane sizing wets quickly in epoxy, vinyl ester, and polyester systems.
- Versatile use: Ideal for castings, slurries, BMC/SMC compounds, putties, and hand-mix applications.
- Visual effects: Press a thin layer at the mold face to achieve a “forged fiberglass” look.
Typical Applications
- Epoxy castings, resin art, decorative inlays, and surface effects
- Body fillers, gap-filling putties, and edge reinforcement
- Injection/transfer molding slurries and press-mold compounds (BMC/SMC)
- Automotive, marine, sporting goods, and general composite fabrication
Specifications
- Fiber Type: E-Glass (electrical grade fiberglass)
- Cut Length Options: 1″ (25 mm), 1/2″ (12.7 mm), 1/4″ (6.4 mm)
- Color/Appearance: Natural (undyed)
- Sizing: Thermoset-compatible silane sizing (epoxy / vinyl ester / polyester)
- Use Level: Common additions ~3–20% by weight depending on viscosity and target properties
Processing Notes
- Introduce fibers gradually while mixing to ensure uniform dispersion and minimize clumping.
- Pre-wetting or staged addition can help reduce air entrapment in high-viscosity systems.
- For a forged-fiber surface, press an even veil of chop at the mold face prior to casting/layup.
- De-air by hand, vibration, or vacuum as appropriate for your resin and geometry.
Ordering
