This chopped strand mat (CSM) is a non-woven reinforcement made from random, short E-glass fibers that are bound together with an emulsion binder. The random fiber orientation provides excellent drape and the ability to conform to tight radii and compound curves, making it a favorite for hand lay-up and repair laminations. At 6.75oz sqyd (0.75oz sqft/229 gsm), this mat is a light build layer that wets out quickly and is often used as a surface/skin coat or between heavier fabrics to reduce print-through and improve finish quality.

Processing Notes

• Best results with polyester or vinyl ester resins. For epoxy systems, use CSM with powder binder or a compatible veil.
• Pre-cut patterns and pre-fit to complex areas for clean lay-ups and minimal bridging.
• Wet out thoroughly and consolidate with a laminating roller to remove entrapped air.
• Place CSM between heavier fabrics to reduce print-through and improve surface finish.
