Fiberglass Surfacing Veil Width 10 Mil
Description
Fiberglass Surfacing Veil — 10-mil • 50″ Width
This fiberglass surfacing veil is a very light, non-woven E-glass sheet designed to be placed between gelcoat (or paint system) and the first reinforcing layer. The ultra-conformable veil creates a resin-rich, print-free surface that hides the pattern of underlying fabrics, improves finish quality, and enhances corrosion and moisture resistance. With a nominal 10-mil thickness, it drapes easily over tight radii and compound curves, making it ideal for cosmetic skins and protective barrier layers in marine, automotive, industrial and architectural composites.
Key Features
- Print-blocking barrier: Minimizes telegraphing of woven/stitched reinforcement patterns into gelcoat.
- Smoother cosmetic finish: Produces a resin-rich top layer that sands and top-coats uniformly.
- Conformable non-woven veil: Excellent drape for tight curves, corners and complex shapes.
- Improved durability: Helps reduce porosity and pin-holes; enhances chemical and moisture resistance.
- Versatile compatibility: Suitable for polyester, vinyl ester, and epoxy resin systems.
Typical Applications
- Barrier layer under gelcoat on hulls, decks, fairings and body panels.
- Cosmetic skins over core seams and woven reinforcements to reduce print-through.
- Corrosion-resistant surface veil in tanks, ducts, and industrial laminates.
- Finish layer on composite molds and tooling where a smoother face is required.
Specifications
- Fiber: E-Glass
- Form: Non-woven surfacing veil
- Nominal Thickness: 10 mil (0.010 in ≈ 0.25 mm)
- Standard Width: 50″ (127 cm)
- Recommended Processes: Hand lay-up, vacuum-assist, spray-up (as a surface barrier)
Processing Notes
- Place the veil directly over cured or tacky gelcoat (or prime/paint layer) before laying structural fabrics.
- Wet out thoroughly to create a resin-rich surface; consolidate gently to avoid fiber distortion.
- Feather edges or overlap slightly for seamless transitions and improved cosmetics.
- Compatible with polyester, vinyl ester, and epoxy resins.
Ordering
- Standard width: 50″ (127 cm)
- Sold by: Linear yard — 1 yard = 36″ length × full width
- Continuous lengths: Multiple yards typically ship as a single continuous roll whenever possible.
Color Disclaimer: Due to individual monitor settings, lighting, and calibration, actual fabric appearance may vary from what is shown online.
How We Sell
We sell this fabric by the linear yard. You will receive a continuous piece of fabric at the width listed.
For example, if the fabric is 50" wide, a quantity of 1 (linear yard) equals a continuous piece measuring 50" wide × 36" long. A quantity of 5 (linear yards) equals a continuous piece measuring 50" wide × 180" long.
