Kevlar Fabric Sleeve 6.6oz/222gsm
Description
Kevlar® Fabric Sleeve – 6.6oz / 222gsm Seamless Braided Tubing
Our Kevlar® Fabric Sleeve 6.6oz/222gsm is a lightweight, seamless braided tubing designed to add exceptional impact, abrasion, and cut resistance to straight or curved parts. Woven entirely from high-performance Kevlar yarns, this sleeve provides a tough, durable protective layer without adding unnecessary weight, making it ideal for demanding structural and protective applications.
The tubular braid construction allows the sleeve to easily conform to changing geometries such as bends, tapers, transitions, and complex shapes. Once expanded over your substrate and tensioned into place, the fibers naturally orient along the load path, helping maximize strength and reliability. When properly wet-out with a compatible resin system, the sleeve creates a rigid, high-performance composite or a rugged protective jacket with a clean, professional look.
Technical Details
- Fiber: 100% Kevlar® aramid
- Basis Weight: 6.6oz/yd² (222gsm) nominal
- Construction: Seamless braided sleeve
- Nominal Thickness: ~0.012" (≈0.30mm) dry
- Available Diameters: Common sizes such as 0.5", 1", and 1.5" (braid will expand/contract to fit)
- Resin Compatibility: Epoxy (recommended), vinyl ester, and polyester systems suitable for aramid fibers
Key Features & Benefits
- Superior Protection: Kevlar® delivers excellent impact, abrasion, and cut resistance compared to fiberglass or carbon alone.
- Seamless Coverage: Braided tube design eliminates longitudinal seams and overlaps.
- Conforms to Complex Shapes: Easily fits curved pipes, tapered shafts, and irregular geometries.
- Lightweight Strength: High performance protection with minimal added weight.
- Predictable Fiber Orientation: Sharx™-style braid naturally aligns along load paths for efficient reinforcement.
Typical Applications
- Protective sleeves for carbon fiber or fiberglass tubes
- Hockey, lacrosse, and sporting goods handles and blades
- Prosthetics and medical device components
- Robotics, UAVs, and industrial automation systems
- Edges, rails, and components requiring high wear and impact resistance
Usage & Sizing Notes
- Choose a nominal diameter that can expand over your part, then tension to achieve a snug, uniform fit.
- As the sleeve expands in diameter, its effective length decreases; final coverage depends on how tight or open the braid is set.
- For maximum performance and surface quality, consolidate with heat-shrink tape or vacuum bagging during cure.
Ordering
- Sold by linear yard
- Depending how many yards are ordered may or may not come on a core
Note: Due to the expandable braided construction, delivered length is based on weight and may vary slightly depending on installation tension and final diameter. Always test a short section to confirm fit and process parameters for your specific project.
How We Sell
We sell this fabric by the linear yard. You will receive a continuous piece of fabric at the width listed.
For example, if the fabric is 50" wide, a quantity of 1 (linear yard) equals a continuous piece measuring 50" wide × 36" long. A quantity of 5 (linear yards) equals a continuous piece measuring 50" wide × 180" long.
