Description

Nomex® Over‑Expanded Honeycomb Core Material (Aramid) – Lightweight Curvable Composite Core

Nomex® over‑expanded honeycomb is a high‑performance aramid core designed specifically for curved and contoured composite structures. Unlike standard honeycomb, the over‑expanded cell geometry allows the core to flex and form to complex shapes while still delivering excellent compressive strength, shear strength, and stiffness once bonded into a sandwich panel.

This lightweight, non‑metallic core provides an exceptional strength‑to‑weight ratio and outstanding durability, making it ideal for aerospace, marine, transportation, and industrial composite applications. Nomex honeycomb is naturally resistant to corrosion, moisture, fatigue, and chemicals, and offers excellent fire performance with low smoke and toxicity.

Key Features / Benefits

  • Over‑expanded cell structure allows easy forming to curves and complex contours
  • Exceptional strength‑to‑weight ratio and stiffness
  • Phenolic‑coated aramid for improved strength and thermal stability
  • Non‑metallic and corrosion resistant
  • Excellent bondability to composite face sheets and prepreg systems
  • Fire retardant with low smoke and toxicity

Available Options

  • Thicknesses: 1/8", 3/16", 1/4", 3/8", 1/2"
  • Sheet Sizes: 24" × 48", 48" × 48", 48" × 96"

Common Applications

  • Aircraft interior panels, floors, bins, fairings, and control surfaces
  • Marine panels, hulls, decks, and buoyant structures
  • Transportation and industrial lightweight composite panels
  • Curved composite sandwich structures and molded cores

Shipping Note

Due to the large size of these panels, shipping is based on dimensional weight, which may result in a billed shipping weight higher than the actual product weight.
