Precision Cut Chopped Fiberglass - Multiple Colors
Description
Description
Precision Cut Chopped Fiberglass — Colored E-Glass Strands (3/8″)
Create tough, isotropic castings and striking visual effects with our precision cut chopped fiberglass. These are high-quality, dyed E-glass fibers cut to approximately 3/8″ (≈9.5 mm) length and surface-sized for excellent bonding with common thermoset resin systems. Unlike woven reinforcements that align strength in a few directions, chopped strands distribute reinforcement throughout the part to improve impact resistance, crack control, gap filling, and dimensional stability—while adding a unique “forged fiberglass” aesthetic when placed at the mold surface. Available in multiple, vibrant colors.
Key Features
- Precision 3/8″ cut: Consistent length for predictable flow and dispersion in resin systems.
- Color-dyed E-glass: Bright, stable colors (Blue, Red, Yellow, White, Lime Green, Orange) for decorative or high-contrast effects.
- Isotropic reinforcement: Fibers are distributed in all directions to enhance toughness and reduce brittleness in castings and molded parts.
- Thermoset compatible: Standard silane sizing wets out rapidly in epoxy, vinyl ester, and polyester resins.
- Process-friendly: Use for castings, putties, slurry molding, compression/BMC/SMC compounds, and hand-mix applications.
- Visual surface effects: Place against the mold face to create “forged fiberglass” style finishes.
Typical Applications
- Epoxy castings, decorative inlays, river tables, and art/resin craft
- Repair putties, tooling fillers, gap filling, and edge reinforcement
- Injection/transfer molding slurries, BMC/SMC compounds, and press-molded parts
- Automotive, marine, sports gear, consumer goods, and industrial components
Specifications
- Fiber Type: E-Glass (electrical grade fiberglass)
- Cut Length: ~3/8″ (≈9.5 mm)
- Colors: Blue, Red, Yellow, White, Lime Green, Orange
- Sizing: Thermoset-compatible silane sizing (epoxy / vinyl ester / polyester).
- Thermoplastic Sizing: Special sizing for select thermoplastics available by request (lead times / MOQs may apply).
Processing Notes
- Blend by weight percent to target properties (common additions ~3–20% depending on viscosity and performance goals).
- Disperse gradually to avoid clumping; pre-wet fibers if needed for uniform distribution.
- For surface aesthetics, lightly press an even layer of chopped fibers against the mold face before layup or casting.
- De-air by hand, vibration, or vacuum as appropriate for the resin system and part geometry.
Ordering
- Sold by: Pound (lb).
- Packaging: Supplied loose; keep sealed and dry to preserve flow and dispersion.
- Continuous Lengths: Not applicable (chopped fibers).
