Precision-Cut Chopped Carbon Fiber — 0.125–2.55 in, Epoxy Compatible (Sold by the lb)
Description
Description
Precision-Cut Chopped Carbon Fiber — 0.125″ to 2.55″ Lengths • Epoxy/Vinyl-Ester/Polyester Compatible (Sold by the lb)
Create tough, “forged-carbon” parts and filled laminates with our precision-cut chopped carbon fiber. Each strand is cleanly sheared to consistent length for predictable mixing, dispersion, and finish quality. Unlike traditional woven fabrics, this random-orientation reinforcement provides more quasi-isotropic behavior, excellent impact resistance, and an authentic forged-carbon aesthetic when used near the surface. Sized for thermoset resins, these fibers mix readily into epoxy, vinyl ester, and polyester systems to produce slurries and molding compounds for hand layup, infusion backfilling, SMC/BMC, casting, and repair work.
Key Features
- Precision cut: Uniform strand lengths from 0.125″ to 2.55″ for repeatable processing and finish.
- High performance: Carbon fiber adds stiffness, strength, crack-bridging and wear resistance.
- Forged-carbon aesthetic: Sprinkle near the surface or blend into clear/colored resins for premium visual effect.
- Easy to mix: Sized for thermosets—excellent wet-out in epoxy, vinyl ester, and polyester systems.
- Multi-process ready: Ideal for hand layup backfill, vacuum infusion core-fills, casting, SMC/BMC and injection-molding slurries.
- Functional filler: Can enhance electrical/thermal conductivity and EMI damping at sufficient loadings.
Typical Applications
- Forged-carbon cosmetic surfaces, trim, handles, housings, and styled components.
- Resin “slurries” to fillet corners, radius edges, fill pinholes/voids, and reinforce 3D-printed parts.
- Bulk/Sheet Molding Compounds (BMC/SMC), injection-molded slurries and cast parts.
- Backfilling vacuum-infused laminates or bonding flanges for increased toughness.
- Repairs: crack-bridging, edge build-ups, and high-strength fillers for composite restoration.

Processing Notes
- Pre-wet with a portion of resin, then mix into the bulk to ensure even dispersion and avoid clumping.
- Adjust fiber volume fraction to reach the desired viscosity for troweling, casting or molding.
- For forged-carbon surfaces, place a fiber-rich layer against the mold face or screed a slurry into a skin coat.
- De-air by gentle vibration or compaction. Use vacuum where practical to reduce entrapped bubbles.
- Observe standard PPE—carbon dust and cut ends can be abrasive; contain dry fibers during handling.
Ordering
- Sold by: Pound (lb), select the strand length to suit your process.
- Packaging: Bagged for clean handling; multiple pounds ship together when possible.
Color & Image Notice: Actual strand length distribution, sheen, and visual density will vary with mix ratio, resin color, and processing. Monitor settings may affect on-screen appearance; performance is not affected.
