Description

2:1 Epoxy Hardener – Slow Cure Hardener for Maximum Working Time

The 2:1 Epoxy Hardener – Slow Cure is designed for projects that require extended open time and controlled curing. When mixed at a 2:1 ratio (2 parts epoxy resin : 1 part hardener), this slow cure hardener provides a long working window, making it ideal for large laminations, complex layups, and applications where you need extra time to position fabrics and remove air.

This hardener is formulated to be used exclusively with our compatible Thin Epoxy Resin and Thick Epoxy Resin. Compared to our 3:1 and 4:1 hardeners, the 2:1 Slow Cure Hardener offers the maximum pot life and a more gradual cure profile, helping reduce stress and heat build-up in thicker sections.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Slow Cure Formula – Provides maximum working time for large parts and detailed layups.
  • 2:1 Mix Ratio – Simple 2 parts resin to 1 part hardener by volume.
  • Extended Pot Life – Approx. 35–40 minutes at 80°F (27°C) for easier wet-out and assembly.
  • Controlled Cure – Typical set time of 5–6 hours and dry time of 24–48 hours, depending on film thickness and temperature.
  • Ideal for Warm Shop Conditions – Best performance above 70°F, with optimal overnight cure around 80°F.
  • Compatible with Thin & Thick Epoxy Resin – Engineered to work within the same system for reliable results.

Recommended Uses

  • Large fiberglass, carbon fiber, or Kevlar® laminates
  • Boat hulls, panels, long seams and wide layups
  • Epoxy coating and wet layup where extended open time is needed
  • Vacuum bagging or hand layup in warm shop environments
  • Projects where minimizing exotherm and internal stress is important

Mixing & Application Guidelines

  • Mix 2 parts epoxy resin to 1 part hardener thoroughly, scraping sides and bottom of the container.
  • Use only with our Thin Epoxy Resin or Thick Epoxy Resin systems.
  • Do not use below 70°F (21°C) unless a very long cure time is acceptable.
  • For best overnight curing, maintain shop temperature around 80°F (27°C).
  • Avoid large mass pours; spread material out to control exotherm and achieve an even cure.
  • Typical shelf life is approximately one year when stored properly in a cool, dry place.

For the longest working time within our epoxy system, 2:1 Epoxy Hardener – Slow Cure is the go-to choice, delivering dependable performance on demanding composite and coating projects.
