Description
Description
TeXtreme® 1051 — HS Spread Tow Carbon Fiber, 12k
39.37" (100 cm) Wide • 1.89 oz (64 gsm)
TeXtreme® 1051 is an ultra-light, High Strength (HS) 12k spread-tow carbon fabric engineered for maximum stiffness-to-weight and a premium surface finish. Flattened (spread) tows are laid in a low-crimp checkerboard that minimizes resin-rich zones and fiber waviness—resulting in higher mechanical efficiency, cleaner cosmetics, and less print-through than traditional weaves.
Key Specs
- Fiber: Carbon fiber, 12k HS tow
- Construction: TeXtreme® spread-tow checkerboard (very low crimp)
- Areal Weight: 1.89 oz (64 gsm)
- Standard Width: 39.37" (100 cm)
- Stabilization: Light binder on one face for cutting & layup stability
Benefits
- Ultra-efficient laminate: Low crimp improves fiber efficiency for lighter, stiffer parts.
- Smoother surface: Reduced print-through and resin pooling for premium clear-coat finishes.
- Lower resin usage: Helps achieve target fiber volume with less resin.
- Proven performance: Used in motorsport, aerospace prototypes, high-end sporting goods, UAVs, and bicycles.
Applications
- Motorsport bodywork, aero panels, interior trim
- UAV/drone frames, robotics, RC components
- High-end consumer & sporting goods (bikes, hockey, racquets, paddles, instruments)
- Automotive & marine covers, fairings, and aesthetic skins
Resins & Processes
- Resins: Epoxy (preferred), Vinyl Ester, Polyester
- Processes: Wet layup & vacuum bag, Vacuum Infusion/VARI, RTM; also suitable for conversion to prepreg/autoclave
Handling Notes
- Place the non-bindered face against the tool for the best cosmetic surface.
- Binder softens with modest heat to improve drape during preforming.
- Handle gently to preserve the flat-tow geometry and visual quality.
Ordering
- Width: 39" (99 cm)
- Sold by:Linear Yard — 1 yard = 36" length × full width
- Continuous Lengths: Multiple yards ship as one continuous piece whenever possible.
Note: Dry thickness for 64 gsm spread-tow fabrics is very thin and depends on handling and consolidation. Validate layup schedules and cures for your application.
