TeXtreme® 5018 - HS UNI Spread Tow Carbon Fiber Tape 20mm 12k 0.78"/20mm 2.36oz/80gsm 100M Roll
Description
Description
TeXtreme® 5018 – HS UNI Spread Tow Carbon Fiber Tape · 20 mm (0.78") · 12k · 2.36 oz (≈80 gsm)
This TeXtreme® 5018 HS UNI spread-tow carbon fiber tape is a premium, unidirectional (UD) reinforcement engineered for lightweight, high-stiffness structures. Built from carefully spread 12k high-strength (HS) carbon yarn, the tape delivers low crimp, excellent fiber straightness and a smooth, low-print surface that reduces resin pooling compared with conventional narrow UD tapes. A light, formulated epoxy binder on one side helps maintain alignment during lay-up and trimming; a removable plastic liner prevents the binder from sticking to the layer beneath until placement.
Key features
- Spread-tow UD construction: Maximizes axial properties and minimizes crimp for higher stiffness/strength per ply.
- 20 mm (0.78") width: Perfect for spar caps, stringers, flanges, edge bands and local reinforcements.
- Light areal weight: 2.36 oz (≈80 gsm) supports weight-critical laminates.
- Clean handling: Light binder keeps fibers aligned; liner peels away for easy placement and neat cuts.
- Superior cosmetics: Smooth spread-tow surface reduces print-through and excess resin accumulation.
- Process friendly: Compatible with epoxy (recommended), vinyl-ester and polyester systems; suitable for wet lay-up, vacuum bagging and infusion/VARTM.
Typical applications
Axial reinforcement for spar caps, stringers, ribs and beams; local strengthening of joints and flanges; sporting goods (stick/shaft, paddle, racket and board rails), UAV/RC structures, marine foils/masts and motorsport composite members.
Technical details
- Style: TeXtreme® 5018 HS UNI (High-Strength unidirectional)
- Fiber: 12k HS carbon, spread-tow
- Width: 20 mm (0.78")
- Areal weight: 2.36 oz (≈80 gsm)
- Form: UD tape with light binder (liner-backed)
- Standard roll length: 100 m roll (availability may vary)
- Recommended resin: Epoxy (vinyl-ester and polyester compatible)
Processing tips
- Orient the tape along the primary load path (0°) for maximum stiffness; combine with ±45°/90° plies for balanced laminates.
- Remove the liner just before placement. Consolidate under vacuum to improve fiber-volume fraction and surface finish.
- Trim with a sharp blade; the light binder minimizes fray while keeping fibers straight.
