RDR-1902 High Temperature Black Surface Coat
Description
RDR-1902 High Temperature Black Surface Coat – Epoxy Tooling Gelcoat
RDR-1902 High Temperature Black Surface Coat from Premium Resin Tech is a specialty epoxy tooling gelcoat formulated to deliver a deep black, high-gloss finish with outstanding durability and chemical resistance. Designed for epoxy composite tooling, this surface coat provides the strength and heat resistance required for demanding laminating and molding operations.
Compared to standard tooling gel coats, RDR-1902 offers superior toughness and improved resistance to scratching, handling damage, and repeated high-temperature exposure. When properly post-cured, this system supports high-temperature laminating up to 350°F, making it an excellent choice for advanced composite molds, tooling boards, and production fixtures.
Key Features & Benefits
- High-temperature capable: recommended for epoxy laminating and tooling applications up to 350°F (with proper post-cure).
- Deep black, high-gloss finish: produces mold-quality surfaces with excellent cosmetic appearance.
- Excellent chemical resistance: engineered to stand up to aggressive composite processing environments.
- Superior durability: resists scratching and handling damage better than standard tooling gel coats.
- Room-temperature cure with post-cure: convenient processing followed by post-cure to achieve full mechanical and thermal properties.
- Optimized for epoxy tooling: ideal surface coat for high-performance epoxy composite molds and tools.
Compatible Hardeners
- RDH-9302 Room Temperature Laminating Hardener – approx. 14-minute pot life at 72°F.
- RDH-9106 High Temperature Slow Cure Hardener – approx. 60-minute pot life at 72°F and higher strength capability.
Usage Notes
- Surface coat cures at room temperature; post cure is required to reach listed heat distortion temperatures.
- Not recommended as a machining surface; use as a high-performance gelcoat for epoxy tooling laminates.
- Sold by weight – 10 lbs ≈ 1 gallon, 50 lbs ≈ 5 gallons.
For best results, always follow the Premium Resin Tech Technical Data Sheet (TDS) and Application Guide for recommended mix ratios, film thickness, post-cure schedules, and processing instructions. Premium Resin Tech products are engineered and manufactured in the USA.
